Observe the season of Lent with Ives Chapel
We have entered the season of Lent, a 40-day season of spiritual preparation that leads up to the celebration of Easter. You are invited to join us as we make a journey to the cross and listen to the messages Jesus has for us in his seven final statements. Many of us may want to avoid the reality of the cross. But it is from the cross that Jesus demonstrates his deepest love for us. It is from the cross that we witness his humanity. It is from the cross that we see his divine glory and deep trust in the Father.
During Lent, we are going to draw closer to the cross as we reflect on and study Seven Words: Listening to Christ from the Cross, a book by Susan Robb. On Good Friday, Jesus utters seven statements from the cross. These statements can give us direction on how we are to live as we strive to follow Jesus on the journey that leads him to Golgotha. As we examine each of the seven statements, we’ll study Scripture passages from Matthew, Mark, Luke and John since none of the gospel writers record all of the statements. Messages on Sundays during Lent will be based on the Seven Words book, and Pastor Linda will offer recorded midweek Bible study lessons that expand on some of the information from the messages.
For now, we will continue to worship remotely. But we are hopeful that we may be able to return to in-person worship before Easter. Plan to join us!
